Aluminium profile manufacturing is a precise industrial process carried out using the hot extrusion method. Aluminium alloy billets are heated and forced through a die to obtain the desired section. Here are all stages of the aluminium extrusion process:
1. Billet Preparation
Aluminium billets are prepared at the foundry according to the alloy recipe. Alloys such as 6060, 6063 and 6082 offer different mechanical properties. Billets are heated to 450–500°C before extrusion.
2. Die and Pressing
The pre-prepared steel die is placed in the extrusion press. The heated billet is forced through the die opening under 1,000–3,000 tonnes of pressure to obtain the desired profile section. At this stage, aluminium is at a dough-like consistency.
3. Controlled Cooling
The hot profile emerging from the die is cooled in a controlled manner using air or water. Cooling rate directly affects the mechanical properties of the profile. Rapid cooling provides higher strength.
4. Stretching and Straightening
Cooled profiles are mechanically stretched to relieve internal stresses and ensure straightness. This process guarantees that the profile remains straight during installation.
5. Cutting
Profiles are cut to the desired length (typically 6–7 metres) using a saw. Cutting accuracy is ±1 mm.
6. Artificial Ageing
The cut profiles undergo heat treatment in an ageing furnace at specific temperatures to achieve the alloy's final hardness and strength values (T5 or T6 temper).
